Mondrian Hotel
- Mondrian - 8440 Sunset Blvd - West Hollywood, CA 90069
Simple, pure, honest and real, yet playful, witty and full of surprise, Mondrian's
238 guest rooms bear the unmistakable design persona of Philippe Starck.
Nearly all these oversized guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass walls
that "bring the outside in." Mostly suites and studios, all with astonishing
views, the serene, friendly accommodations are laid out much as a home, with
spare but elegant furnishings. They are more about comfort and convenience,
refuge and security, than they are about a design statement. The living room
is really a "family room," with two large, comfortable sofas. The kitchen,
accessorized like home with stove, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, silverware
and other amenities usually associated with a well stocked private kitchen,
has an eat-in, bar-height table with stools. Bathrooms are oversized and
accessorized like a home, and include the finest toiletries and practical
bathing amenities with ample shelf space. The work area in each room is accessorized
with all the necessary office supplies to create an efficient working environment.
Though functional, sensible and understated, Mondrian's suites are dotted
with touches of spirituality, humor and whimsy that have become a Starck
standard: a watchful eye peers from the back of a chair; poetry in the form
of a single word appears unexpectedly.
